In 1995 the Council transferred its housing stock to two specially formed housing associations, now known as Kingfisher Housing Association and Oakfern Housing Association (now operating as part of Sentinel Housing Group). All social housing in the Borough is now provided by in excess of 25 different housing associations, and is accessed via the Housing Needs Register. Housing associations are non-profit making organisations, providing many different sizes and types of self-contained accommodation. Some associations provide more specialised accommodation for people with specific needs, such as sheltered accommodation.
